Black 3.0 is the latest version of Stuart Semple’s super matte, ultra black acrylic paint.
It was created with the help of over 1000 different artists who beta-tested the paint. Thanks to the amazing support of the artistic community via Kickstarter we managed to fund the manufacture of this incredible paint (it was just too much for our little studio).
Black 3.0 is the blackest and mattest acrylic paint on the planet. Unlike other super-black coatings it can be safely applied with nothing more than a brush, and we’ve worked super hard to make it affordable.
We created a new acrylic resin that holds more pigment than other acrylics which means 3.0 is capable of trapping much more light.
We developed a pigment (Black Magick) that is totally matte (normally black pigments are slightly shiny)
We have added a variety of brand new transparent mattifiers to flatten out stray light.
Absorbs up to 99% of visible light
Apply with a brush or a spray
Works with most surfaces (wood, paper, canvas, plastic, metal, plaster etc…)
Thins with water
Lightfast and archival
No need for cooking, vacuum chambers, or weapons-grade scientists
Smells like fresh coffee
Not available to Kapoor
Looking for a bigger bottle? Got a BIG idea? Black 3.0 has been supersized… get your BIG Black (1 litre) here
It’s simply a paint, so it’s super easy. You literally just brush it on. It will handle a bit different than your other paints, but you’ll get used to it :)
Key things to remember:
Use a nice soft brush (not a rubbish scratchy comblike one)
Apply at room temperature 10 - 25 c ( 50 - 77 F)
Use as little paint as possible and spread it out nicely
Allow to dry between coats (at least two hours, overnight is better)
Use a hairdryer to get max blackness
Seal absorbent (porous) things with 25% PVA and 75% Water
Prime shiny (non - absorbent) things with primer orBlack 2.0
Q. Can I mix it into Resin?
A. Technically yes, but it will not stay matte! If you're looking for a glossy and super black finish then this is for you! We recommend using Epoxy Resin.

Q. Can I paint my car / bike etc…
A. NO - 3.0 is quite fragile and will just scratch off, it won’t weather well.
Q. Can I put a topcoat over it then?
A. NO that will destroy the matte effect, and many topcoats (including our COAT) will react with the paint and ruin the finish.
Q. I got some weird white marks form on my work, why?
A. You didn't let it dry fully between coats or you painted it on an absorbent surface without sealing it first.
Q. Can I mix it into Resin?
A. Technically yes, butit will not stay matte! If you're looking for a glossy and super black finish then this is for you! We recommend using Epoxy Resin.

Please help us find out...
BLACK MIRROR
Black gloss potion Hybrid solvent-based coating250 ML
For centuries a high-gloss brushable mirror paints have eluded alchemists and scientists.
Cars need to be lacquered, gloss needed to be sprayed. Household gloss left brushmarks and artists dreamed of a mega gloss for their work. You needed to buy gloss topcoats, and if you got it wrong it foamed and bubbled and clouded your work.
Brushable, super reflective paints are elusive, challenging, and difficult to use. We really hope this contribution fixes that and enables you to do things you couldn't before in your work! No more gloss topcoats!
MASTER OF THE DARK ARTS
Artist Stuart Semple and his studio geeks are well known for creating both the blackest black paints and Mirror - the first and best brushable mirror chrome paint.
We are hyped to share that these discoveries have now collided to enable you to wield the power of Black Mirror, simply the shiniest, mirroriest black coating out there.
NOT JUST ANOTHER GLOSS BUT MEGA GLOSS!
We wanted to create a paint that wasn't just glossy or shiny but was so reflective it could truly be called a Black Mirror. As it dries you'll see the same self-leveling technology we used in the original Mirror come into play to give you a super flat, ultra-gloss finish. It's tough too, you won't need a topcoat on this monster!
SELF LEVELING
RIDICULOUSLY REFLECTIVE
GOES ON WITH A BRUSH OR SPRAY
BLACKER THAN A GOTH'S HEART
DRIES REALLY TOUGH AND DURABLE
NONE MORE BLACK
CAN YOU HELP?
Is Black Mirror really the world's most reflective Black paint?
We believe so! It's way shinier and more reflective than any brushable paint we've put it up against. But we don't know everything... that's where you come in! We would love you to put it through its paces, compare it to other paints, and let us know if we've really nailed it...
We've made a small batch of lab tins or this bonkers new Black Mirror concoction. We are sharing them with a small number of artists in order to get a sense of how you use them and how we can make it even better for all artists. We will send you a survey a couple of weeks after you get the paint, and if you have time we'd love to hear all your thoughts. As a thank you, we will make sure you get a healthy discount on the final formulation.
HOW TO USE AND THE SAFETY BIT
Unlike most of our other materialsthis paint is solvent-basedso please use it in a well-ventilated area.
BIG TIP! Don't use a scratchy, rubbish brush. Use a decent soft paintbrush (or experiment with a spray)
Clean your brushes with white spirit/turps etc not with water!
Use a good soft synthetic brush.
Seal porous surfaces first (PVA is good)
Obviously don’t leave it on your skin, drink it, eat it etc.
You can spray it with an airbrush BUT make sure you have a mask on - the fumes aren’t friendly!
Keep it away from the kids and animals
Don't get it in your eyes!
It doesn't dry quite the same as the paints you're used to - make sure to leave it to dry for 24 hours in a cool (not cold), well-ventilated area, for 24 hours before touching it
We can’t wait to see what you do with it! Please be sure to share your work with us.

note: all screens reproduce colour differently, so the images you are seeing may vary from the actual product, we've done our best to accurately portray them with our photography.
*YES all artists! It's time the miserable ones had a bit more colour in their life - Stuart wants to share the rainbow with them, he thinks they need it.
Caution - Containsthe essential oil of Aniseed / Liquorice if you have this known allergy which may cause a reaction
This is a super black micronized pigment by Stuart Semple. It is exceptionally lightfast.
This is the 1.0 BLACK pigment that was originally released as as part of the beta version during development of Stuart’s BLACK.
Due to so many requests we’ve decided to make this legacy version available whilst stocks last.
We won’t be producing any more of the BLACK 1.0 pigment because it has been superseded by BLACK 2.0 which contains a significantly improved pigment and the perfect pigment to base ratio. (you can check out black 2.0 here)
IMPORTANT
BLACK 1.0 pigment is NOT bindable with water! (This is different from all Stuart's other powder colours). You can't just add water to make it into a paint. To use it you will need to mix it with a binder or a base of your choice.
It will mix with linseed oil to create oil paint or your choice of acrylic medium.
It was originally designed to work with Stuart’s own Super Base - if you are looking to create a super matte, super flat paint. You can order Super Base HERE
We strongly suggest that you watch this youtube video in which stuart explains how to use this powder with his base:
HOW TO USE WITH SUPER BASE
Squeeze out some super base onto a mixing surface, palette or plate
Spoon in the powder mixing slowly until it becomes so lumpy you can't possibly add in any more
Add a few drops of water and stir
Keep adding water (slowly and carefully) until you get the flow you want
use it like a paint
HEALTH AND SAFETY
This stuff gets everywhere! Be careful before you know it your whole house and life will be stained black! Open it carefully be sensible.
It’s non toxic but please don’t get it in your eyes or swallow any. Keep it away from your mouth!
