Ultra high grade Gold Mirror hybrid solvent based coating
For years Stuart Semple's Silver chrome Mirror coating has been setting artists' imaginations on fire. But one question kept coming back from our community: Can you make a Gold Mirror with the same incredible reflectivity as the chrome?
It was a big ask.
No one has ever managed to do it before. Sure there are gold paints, but a true gold mirror with chrome-level reflectivity?
After almost two years in development, we're ready to release Gold Mirror to the world.
Following our Beta release earlier this year, our community of testers gave us their feedback. As always, we listened and made the changes they asked for.
The result? A gorgeous deep luxuriant gold mirror finish that was worth the wait. Now artists all over the world have their pot of Gold Mirror at the end of the rainbow.
How to Use Gold Mirror Paint
Metal & Plastic Surfaces:
• Clean surface thoroughly to remove dirt, grease, or residue
• Prime surface for optimal adhesion
• you may need two - three coats to get a final surface
Paper & Canvas:
• Seal surface with dilute PVA seal first
• This prevents solvents from soaking into the paper
• Essential for archival quality and proper coverage
• Allow seal to dry completely
Wood:
• Sand lightly and clean surface
• Apply appropriate primer for adhesion
• Seal porous woods to prevent solvent absorption
Tools Needed:
• Use a clean, soft brush
• White spirit or thinners for cleanup
• Protective equipment (mask, gloves, ventilation)
Application Process:
Stir paint thoroughly before use - this coating has a thicker consistency than Chrome Mirror
Apply first coat using a clean, soft brush in smooth, even strokes
Allow to dry completely between coats
Apply thin 2-3 coats for optimal reflectivity and coverage
Work and store the paint in well-ventilated areas - solvent fumes are intense
Tips
• Brush technique: Use smooth, consistent strokes to avoid brush marks
• Coverage: This paint has more body than Chrome Mirror (which is micron-thin)
• Drying time: Allow adequate drying between coats for best results
• Temperature: Apply at room temperature for optimal flow
Safety & Cleanup
During Use:
• Wear an mask when applying - fumes can be intense
• Ensure adequate ventilation
• Wear gloves to protect skin
Cleanup:
• Clean brushes immediately with white spirit or thinners|
• If paint contacts skin, remove quickly with thinners, then wash with soap
• Store paint in cool, dry place away from heat sources
Troubleshooting
• Uneven coverage: Apply additional thin coats rather than one thick coat
• Brush marks: Use softer brush and lighter pressure
• Poor adhesion: Ensure surface was properly primed and cleaned
Result: A gorgeous, rich, deep, luxuriant gold mirror finish with exceptional reflectivity.
